The Element of Earth: A Source of Strength and Stability

You live You live and walk on the Earth every single day, but how often do you notice the ground beneath your feet? The Earth is miraculous. It sustains you, supports you, and provides for you. When you open your awareness to her life-giving nurturing and strength, you can change your life.

Today, we will explore the earth element's qualities, energies, and strengths.

The Four Elements

The ancient Greeks believed that the four elements—Earth, Air, Water, and Fire—made up everything in our world. In a way, this is still true today, as the four elements align with the four states of matter: solid (earth), liquid (water), gas (air), and plasma (fire). The four elements are present in our physical word and in our spiritual world.

The elements inform, balance and heal. When you consciously engage an element, its power is activated within you and can offer inner knowledge, vitality, and healing.

The elements charge and energize us and work with every aspect of our being: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.

Connecting with the Element of Earth

Stone Meditation

Find a stone you are drawn to. Ask a silent question in your heart, "Stone, will you come with me?" Notice if you feel a 'yes' or a 'no'. A 'yes' will feel light and expansive, and a 'no' will feel heavy and contracting. If yes, thank the stone. If no, look for a different stone.

When you are ready, find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Take three deep breaths. You are about to engage in a ritual of connection. Ritual opens us to a deeper level of awareness.

Pick up the stone and hold it in your hand. Feel its energy and power. Connect with your heart, not your mind.

As you connect to the power of the stone and the life force energy within it, you connect with the stone and, through it, to the Earth.

Pay attention to what thoughts or feelings arise in your mind. Use all your physical senses: What do you see? How does the stone feel? Does it have a unique smell?

Ask that you may receive the blessing of the element of Earth. Ask that you may receive the solidity, stability, and strength in the stone.

When you feel complete, take three deep breaths and thank the stone for its help. You can record your experience in your journal.

The stone is a manifestation of the Earth element. Every manifestation has energies, qualities, gifts, and powers that it can offer you. Rocks, mountains, crystals, mud, clay, rotting vegetation, lava, chalk, minerals, and compost are just a sampling of the many manifestations of the element of Earth. You can receive images, feelings, and ideas from all aspects of Earth.

Through this tiny stone, you can receive the nurturing and love of the Earth because you can connect with the Earth through the stone. The stone itself carries wisdom about rivers, erosion, and its life on the planet. What could the stone teach you?
